What if your rental car is stolen or damaged? Here’s how a Travel with Jane Luxe travel insurance policy or Annual Multi Trip policy will cover your rental car insurance excess. Hitting the open road on an overseas travel adventure is one of life’s great pleasures. Crashing your rental car, or getting it nicked, is definitely not a pleasure. Especially when your rental car company hits you with an excess on the rental car insurance you took out. If this is you, your Travel with Jane Luxe travel insurance policy will pay the rental car company’s insurance excess up to $5,000. Same goes for a Travel with Jane Annual Multi Trip policy.
WE’LL PAY THE EXCESSIf you find yourself in a sticky situation and your rental car has to be either repaired or replaced, your rental car company will ask you to pay an excess to cover costs – that is if you’ve taken out car rental insurance of course. If this is the case, we’ll pay the excess or the cost of repairing your rental car, whichever is less. In order to claim, keep a copy of the repair quote or repair account.
WE’LL RETURN THE RENTAL CARIf you were in a more serious accident, we’ll also pay up to $500 to cover the cost of returning your rental car to the nearest rental car depot, provided your attending medical advisor certifies that you’re unfit to drive.
WHAT WE MEAN BY ‘RENTAL CAR’Under a Travel with Jane Luxe or Annual Multi Trip policy, ‘rental car’ (or ‘rental vehicle’) means you’ve rented a sedan, hatchback or station wagon, four wheel drive or mini bus / people mover, or a campervan/motorhome that weighs no more than 4.5 tonnes, from a licensed motor vehicle rental company. WHEN WE WON’T BE ABLE TO PAYNo one sets out to crash their rental car, but driving on foreign roads with foreign road rules, tends to test even the most experienced drivers. If you’re involved in a rental car bingle and need to pay insurance excess, your Travel with Jane Luxe travel insurance policy will cover you in most instances, but to be super prepared, you need to know about certain conditions and exclusions. Here are the main things to look out for. Full details can be found in your policy PDS:
- If the actions that lead to the damage or loss of your rental car were made in violation of the rental agreement, you won’t be covered.
- If the damage or loss occurred while you were affected by alcohol or drugs, you won’t be covered.
- If you were driving the rental car without a valid licence, you won’t be covered.
