About you

My name is Yuki and I’m a digital nomad from Brazil. I work as a freelancer with customer support and translation, so I can do my own schedule and have the flexibility to travel as long as I can and I’ve been traveling the world for over a year now. I also give travel tips and recommendations from wherever I am at the moment on my Instagram https://www.instagram.com/brizanaviagem/.

Why do you travel and look for adventures?

Since I was a kid, I knew I wanted to travel the world. I had it in my gut that I wanted to explore and see whatever was out there, that feeling of freedom, the butterflies in my stomach. I never really had the resources to travel the world, but with the support of my family, when I traveled abroad for the first time in my life all by myself, I just knew I needed to do it.

There is a sentence that I really like, whose author is Brazilian, that says “Travel is changing clothes of the soul” and he could not describe it better the meaning of what traveling means. When we travel, we learn about new cultures, new languages, and people with different backgrounds, these experiences are priceless. This is why I travel, not just to visit different countries all around the world, but because we always learn something new.

What kind of adventures do you look for when you travel?

I always try to stay close to the sea, it brings me peace, and just the feeling of laying on the sand and simply enjoying the nature around me, listening to the sound of the waves, bring me an inexplicable calmness. When I’m not at the beach, I like to be in contact with local people to learn more about their culture, their country, and their history.

What’s your go-to travel hack?

I’m definitely not a super outgoing person, so I tend to avoid crowds and touristy places. But of course, this is inevitable when we’re traveling to a tourist place, so I try to visit early in the morning and enjoy more the place.

Got any gear you can’t travel without?

I never travel without my computer (without it, I cannot work) and my camera/phone, one of my hobbies besides traveling is photography, so whenever I can I’m trying to capture moments with them, like a colorful sunset at the beach, the ocean, or even random pictures of food, since I’m a foodie myself.

What destination are you eager to go back to?

Thailand was one of my favorite countries in South East Asia and I’m definitely looking forward to go back to when I can. I don’t have anything to complain about it, people are so friendly and welcoming (even though they rarely speak English, they always try to find a way to communicate with us), the food is really good, the nature, and on top of everything, it’s a super affordable country to travel.

How do you stay safe when you’re travelling?

I always try to do some research before I go to a new place, check videos on Youtube, especially for women travelers, and something that’s really helpful too is to ask on Facebook groups in the specific country I’m going to, if it’s safe for women, tips, and recommendations. Another piece of advice is: never travel without insurance, because you never know, better safe than sorry. And in regards to my belongings, I always travel with lockers in my luggage and am always aware of my surroundings.

What’s the best way to experience a destination like a local?

The best way to experience a destination like a local is definitely to ask a local. Sometimes they’ll give you touristy (and expensive) recommendations, but if you explain you want a more authentic and local experience, they’ll definitely ask you about your travel interests and give you the best tips as locals. Asking at restaurants and coffee shops is also a good idea.

What’s your favourite word in another language?

“Wanderlust,” a strong desire to travel, is what defines me as a nomad.

When and where are you next travelling?

Next is Europe for a couple of months then back to Brazil to see friends and family, then who knows?
